Day 10, and the tweets are still coming.
I see President Trump has finally got around to condemning racism and the KKK. That’s great, but why does he always have to be dragged, kicking and screaming about people being unfair to him, to the altar of decency? When you are a leader, especially one as great as he says he is, this stuff should be instinct.
Trump’s inability to prove himself as a leader is not doing his approval rating any good either. The latest Gallup poll was taken over the three days ending Sunday, so partly includes the Charlottesville incident. It has him down to his lowest approval level yet – 34%. His approval level with Republicans and Independents is at new lows: Republicans: 77%. Independents: 29%. The approval rating of Democrats is 7%, which is the same as last week. (Yes, seven. That’s not a typo.)
President Obama’s lowest ever rating was 38%, which he fell to on three occasions.

Political Tweets
Well, I suppose hypocrisy in politics is not exactly new, but the timing could be better. The troubling thing to me is that it’s the media that’s mostly on the receiving end of the attack. The leader in a democracy should be supporting freedom of the press more than anyone else.

Here’s the ad. Note also, that’s some of it isn’t even true, such as the military being the” strongest it’s been in decades…”
Trump says he supports police officers, but it is the inspiration of his presidency that means situations like this are more likely to occur …

He could be right. Personally, I don’t think Trump is actually stupid though. I think he’s intellectually lazy, ignorant, and out of his depth.

Should this be in politics? Probably, but this makes it easier to find if I ever want to search for it again!

There are good people, if misguided, in religion, and we must acknowledge it when we find it. (Misguided because white supremacy isn’t a “sin” it’s just wrong, and acting on a belief in it is immoral.)

I couldn’t find any! It was very disappointing! 🙁
I think everyone was too busy posting about Charlottesville.
I’ve found a cutie since though, so there’s at least one tomorrow. Yay!
Heather, elated that dogs getting their due here:)
I particularly liked the way Trump clung to his lectern and stared fixedly at his auto-cue, like a rabbit staring in terror at a cobra, afraid of making a wrong move.
At least it showed signs of a little less cocky over-confidence and maybe a developing self-awareness.
It maybe though that someone has managed to get a leash on him at last.
It’s futile to even hold the notion that this broken man will allow a leash of any sort from any one. People have been looking (hoping) for a “re-set” for almost 8 months now. Ain’t gonna happen; in fact, evidence points towards the situation getting much worse.
It’s a good start. Perhaps he’s finally learning the value of a teleprompter. He’s always done better when he uses one, much as he and his supporters criticize others for doing the same.
His unhinged press conference an hour or two ago pretty much destroyed any type of “good start” he may have had.
He sure did!
I don’t think Trump is stupid, but I don’t think he’s particularly smart either…maybe average intelligence. But as you pointed out, his faults lie in his lazy intellect, absence of curiosity, enormous ego, lack of empathy and tone deafness (all these traits are manifestations of his narcissism); and all these traits reside under the suffocating umbrella of ignorance. Unfortunately, the last people to suspect they’re ignorant are those who are ignorant. We had an entire group of these ignoramuses on display in Charlottesville (and sadly, some were on the left).
I wish more liberal politicians would use tweets like “Republican Logic” for short tv ads, newspaper ads, banner ads…hell, even billboards. Americans have been really dumbed down over the years (thanks Fox!); nowadays, a vast majority don’t have the attention span or interest to understand the intricate details of politics and policy (in other words, to understand “why?”). Republicans are great at manipulating the most complex issues into bumper stickers. The left’s arsenal of zingers is much richer (and more truthful) than the right’s, so let’s unleash them. It is time to start communicating our message faster, simpler and wider.
That “comic” (hard to call it that) of Bannon feeding Trump his BS was eerily disturbing. I think it is the particular artistic style I find unsettling and the rendering of Bannon.
And I can’t wait to try my first SLT sandwich! (Or perhaps DLT for ‘Dulce’.)
Thanks for your efforts Heather, much appreciated!
Fareed Zakaria interviewed Bill Maher on his show over the weekend. Maher made the point that the Left just isn’t very good at politics when it comes to getting ideas across in the same way you did. I agree with you both. They’re too busy being intellectually superior, which comes across as patronizing.
